Bruce Pfohl completed a psychiatric residency at the
University of Iowa and joined the faculty in 1981. He is
currently a professor of psychiatry in the University of
Iowa College of Medicine. He has published over 85
papers and book chapters. He has long been
interested in the diagnosis and assessment of
personality disorder and how the presence of
personality disorder influences the course and
outcome of other psychiatric disorders. He served on
the American Psychiatric Association’s Personality
Disorder Workgroup responsible for revision of the
personality disorders section of DSM-IIIR, DSM-IV, and
DSM-IV-TR. Bruce lives in Iowa City with his wife, Judy,
and enjoys biking through the Iowa countryside by
day, scanning the Iowa skies with his telescope for
deep space objects at night, and listening to jazz and
National Public Radio anytime.
